Research

The potential of urologic research lies in the discovery of new knowledge and methodologies in the research laboratories. The key lies in rapid translation of research findings into the clinic in order to improve prognosis and the lives of patients.

Some of the key areas in urologic research that the University of Miami/Miller School of Medicine’s Department of Urology has contributed to include:

  • We are one of the only centers in the country performing minimally invasive radical prostatectomies for prostate cancer and have a team of experts performing robot-assisted laparoscopic procedures.
  • Our team helped develop the technique for the conservation of the bladder neck leading to better continence in prostate cancer patients.
  • We are one of the only centers in the country known for the removal of large kidney tumors using techniques developed for liver transplantation.
  • Our basic research team has developed a urine test to help in the early diagnosis of bladder cancer.
